"Dha" is a resonant combination stroke.
"Ge" +
"Ta" =
"Dha"
See the animation on the right. Remember
Ge? It's played by slapping the big end of the drum and making
a big, resonant BOOM. Remember
Ta? Ti is played by bouncing your index finger off the rim of
the small end of the drum. So DHA
is a combination of Ge plus Ta played at precisely the
same time.
If you're serious about learning
how to play the mrdanga, then you seriously need to know the
component strokes like the
back of your hand. So if I tell you “play Ti” or “play
the combination strokes Tuk Dha,” you will know exactly what
I mean. This is absolutely necessary, you see, so that you can
effortlessly play even more complicated mrdanga mantras, which are
nothing but combinations of these individual strokes you're
learning now!
